Aeronautical Services has filed an application for a new patent of a structural multilayer panel for railway carriages.
The new composite is made of thermoplastic resin and carries the advantage of being from 30% to 50% lighter than a similar panel made of steel while keeping the same resistance in case of collision.
The panel is also more versatile to shaping and seamlessly blends with glass or carbon fibers. It can be molded with conventional resin thermosetting transformation technologies and has an exceptionally fast response to welding and gluing. It is fully recyclable and has a lower manufacturing cost compared to other thermoplastic technologies.
The composite is also qualified for Fire Protection on Railway Vehicles Norm (UNI EN-45545-2 R7). The result obtained is the highest end of the norm, Hazard Level 3.
